How do we legitimize authority?
Time - getting to know someone else will help win their trust
Charisma - many people would immediatly believe and follow a movie star
Elected - if many people believe Mr. X is the right choice, than perhaps he is
Assigned/Implied - someone who is appointed into a position
Why do we believe, trust and go along with our bosses decisions and what makes their ideas the best choie for any situation? Eh?

We can only hope that those who are assigned into authoritative positions can use his/her experience or knowledge to lead the masses into prosperity or wherever else we may want to go. We chose our leaders on the basis of mostly appealing attributes. Some of which, are mostly signs of a genuinely good person and some are trivial attributes. Not everyone can be leaders. We burden only a select few so we have someone to blame when something goes wrong instead of taking personal or public responsibility. :)
